Living In Spain Language

The Spanish language is rather diverse, as along with the official language of Castellano, there are a further four main dialects, including Catalonian, Galician, Valenciano and Vasco.

It is estimated that there are well over 400 million people who speak Spanish and it is in fact the second most spoken language in the world today, after Mandarin Chinese.

According to experts Spanish or Castilian originated in the north of Spain and gradually spread in the Kingdom of Castile, becoming the main language of government and trade in the Iberian Peninsular.

Spanish is the main language in some areas of South, Central and North America, such as Peru, Costa Rica and Mexico. It is also spoken in parts of the Carribean and in Equatorial Guinea, Africa.

The version of the language which is spoken in America differs somewhat to that of Spain mainly because of the pronunciation and grammar.

Once you settle in it is important to make the effort and learn the new language so that you don't stand out too much. Because your sole aim should be to fit in with the country that you are now living in you need to follow the Spanish culture and one of the main ways of doing this is by learning the language.
