Visiting
the library in Portugal is so important and for reasons that
may not seem obvious to you. In many of the expat areas in
Portugal there are libraries that have a wealth of books
which allow the many nationalities to learn Portuguese.
Many people who are new to Portugal and in the process of
learning the language find the whole process of visiting the
library invaluable in the learning process.
It is not only the fact that the books are first class but
you will more often than not be meeting like minded people
who will no doubt be going through the same frustrations as
you when learning this new language.

The libraries are free to join and require some id but when
this has all been sorted out you will be on your way. The
language books are usually of a very high quality and many
people who have moved to the area have picked up the
language in this way.
In rural areas deliveries and collections can be few and far
between so many people find that it is far easier to
actually rent a post box and simply go and collect the post
themselves.
There are many other services available at the Portuguese
post office just the same as the UK .
There are certain things that you should be aware of when
sending letters and parcels when visiting the post office in
Portugal and one of the main differences to other countries,
especially the UK, is the Portuguese postal code or codigo
postal as it is known. This is written in the form of seven
digits with the first digit representing one of the nine
postal regions in Portugal. The other digits represent
various factors concerning the location.
