Days Out In Portugal

For the expat, days out in Portugal take on a whole new meaning depending on where you are living and what your interests are. In many cases it is just the same as anywhere else in the world in that some people like to laze on the beach on their rest days where as others like to go for long walks in the countryside or visit the cities for their shops or other attractions.

What ever you like to do for your days out in Portugal you will not be disappointed. The selection of beaches are as wide and as varied as you could possibly imagine, if you just want to sunbathe or spend the whole day surfing the waves your needs will be met.

The towns and cities also have so much to offer and if you are not far away from Lisbon there are a wealth of things to do and see to keep every member of the family amused and interested.

The Maritime Museum, or the Museu de Marinha as it is known is absolutely fascinating. It is widely considered to be the best museum in Europe and you don't have to try hard to imagine what life was like in the sixteenth century with hundreds of examples of the various marine vessels that were in use at that time.

If art is your thing than you must visit the Calouste Gulbenkian museum which hosts one of the most stunning private art collections in the world and included in this collection are Rembrandts, Ruben and Renoir. I must warn you though, a few hours in this museum will absolutely fly by and you won't know where the time went.

Perhaps, for your days out in Portugal, it will appeal to you to be a little on the brave side and visit Aqualand on the Algarve. Some of the slides here will have you screaming in both fear and delight as you seem to be defying the laws of gravity as you shoot through the water. If this is what you fancy I would advise visiting either early or lase in the season as I am sure you can imagine how busy it gets as it is extremely popular with holiday makers.

It is very reasonably priced and quite easy to spend a whole day there but be sure to take your own refreshments as that is one thing that can work out to be quite expensive.

Thanks for looking
