Meeting People In Portugal

Moving to a new country can be an extremely daunting experience, as you will be surrounded by a new culture and a new language. However, one of the best ways in which to meet new people, is to dive straight in and enjoy yourself.

If you have recently moved to Portugal then meeting new people to interact with is essential for a happy and healthy new lifestyle. Meeting new people will not only help you to settle into your new lifestyle, it will also help to avoid feelings of homesickness, and allow you to gain a sense of belonging to this new and exciting environment.

During your first few days, weeks, and months, you may feel lonely or completely lost, but meeting new people and developing friendships is a great way to combat these feelings. It may seem that children find it a lot easy than adults, to make friends, but this is not necessarily the case. Just remember to make the most out of every opportunity you can!

Just like in the United Kingdom, there are plenty of familiar things to enjoy and get involved with in the Portuguese culture and communities. No matter what your interests, there are a huge variety of societies and clubs that you can become a part of such as, golf, darts, dance, and plenty more! Most of these societies and clubs will have regular organized day trips and events that are primarily aimed at helping ex pats to socialize and meet new and likeminded people.

There are also a range of charities in Portugal, particularly in the Algarve area where ex pats are in abundance. Although many of these charities don’t advertise, they are always looking for and are grateful for any help then can get. So if you want to get out and about, why not lend a hand to one of the local charities in your area?

Even if you have moved to an area which is residence to other English speaking people, learning Portuguese as quickly as possible, should still be at the top of your list. Once you are able to speak Portuguese it will be much easier to interact with the local people, and become an active member of your local community.

To your new life!
